Dr. Toma provides comprehensive treatment to adult and pediatric patients for a full range of ear, nose, and throat disorders including allergy and sinus disease, adenotonsillar disease, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, medical and surgical treatment of voice disorders, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck cancer, and surgical treatment of parathyroid and thyroid disease.
Education and Professional Background
Dr. Toma completed his residency training in Otolaryngology –Head and Neck Surgery at Wayne State University. During his residency he trained at multiple hospitals including Karmanos Hospital, Childrens Hospital of Michigan, Detroit Receiving Hospital, William Beaumont Hospital, and Oakwood Hospital. He obtained his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr Toma obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University.
Dr. Toma also completed additional advanced training in TransOral Robotic Surgery and is one of the few otolaryngologists in the state of Michigan trained in the use of the DaVinci Surgical Robot. Dr Toma has been practicing in southeast Michigan since 2008. He has published articles in the field of Otolaryngology. Dr Toma has privileges at multiple hospitals and surgical centers including Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center, Oakwood Annapolis Hospital, Garden City Hospital, and Great Lakes Surgical Center.

Dr. Toma completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Albany Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in which he graduated with a Distinction in Biomedical Research. He received his undergraduate degree from Wayne State University.

Dr. Toma is well published and has given numerous presentations at national conferences in the field of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Toma provides comprehensive treatment for the full realm of adult and pediatric ear, nose, and throat disorders including allergy and sinus disease, hearing loss, recurring ear infections, adenotonsillar disease, snoring, sleep apnea, voice disorders, as well as head and neck cancer including salivary gland, thyroid and parathyroid, and cancers of the aerodigestive tract. Additionally, he has extensive training in facial plastic surgery encompassing both cosmetic and reconstructive treatment.

Tania has completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan as well as her Post-Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner certification from Oakland University.
Professional Background
Tania has been practicing as a nurse since 2003 and has been with SEMIENT since 2011. She has extensive experience in otolaryngology, hematology/oncology, and caring for critically ill patients. Her background as a nursing clinical professor has allowed for the development of case management and diverse patient education techniques. Her training includes clinical practicums in General Surgery at St. John Macomb, Pulmonary ICU at St. John Oakland, Lymphoma Clinic of Michigan, pediatrics at Beaumont Pediatric Clinic in Canton, and obstetrics and gynecology at West Village OBGYN in Dearborn.
Interests
She is passionate about otolaryngology and the broad spectrum of diagnosis it encompasses. She enjoys working with children and adults alike. She is fluent in Spanish and her interests include sleep apnea, recurring ear infections, chronic tonsillitis, snoring, hearing loss, chronic sinus disease and environmental allergies. She has a holistic approach to her practice and believes that a caring environment is one that offers the development of potential while allowing the patient to choose the best action for themselves at a given point in time. Her care emphasizes the humanistic aspects of nursing in combination with scientific knowledge.

Deana M. Yasso-Vander Vliet, FNP-BC

Deana M. Yasso-Vander Vliet is a board certified Family Practice Nurse Practitioner accredited by the ANCC as well as the AANP. She joined Southeast Michigan Ear, Nose and Throat in 2016. Ms. Vander Vliet has 10 years of previous nursing experience including ICU care and home ventilator care.
Professional Background
In addition to her extensive clinical experience, Ms. Vander Vliet also has an outstanding academic background that includes two bachelor’s degrees (a bachelor’s in biological sciences from Wayne State University and a BSN in nursing) and a Master of Science in Nursing from the Family Nurse Practitioner Program of South University in Savannah, Georgia.
Interests
Ms. Vander Vliet’s medical interests include acute and chronic ear infections, tonsil infections, sinus infections, congenital hearing loss, and head and neck cancers. She loves working with patients of all ages. She enjoys educating patients and families about the management of their health condition.

Ms. Vander Vliet is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the Academy of Otolaryngolic Allergy, and the Chaldean American Health Care Professionals. She holds medical staff privileges at Beaumont Wayne, Beaumont Dearborn and Garden City hospital. Ms. Vander Vliet is fluent in the language of Chaldean and familiar with many medical Arabic terms.
Karen Bochenek

Karen received her Master’s of Science in Nursing from The University of Detroit-Mercy and remains active at there as an alumnus and adjunct faculty member.
Professional Background
Karen began her nursing career in 1994 and worked primarily in critical care services. She has been a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner for over 10 years and has experience in Emergency Medicine, Trauma Surgery and Internal Medicine.
Interests
Outside of work, Karen is married with 2 daughters and enjoys relaxing with her dogs, knitting and driving her 61 VW Beetle.
